Biography

Born in Mississippi, USA, Dee came to London as a child, and grew up in a world of celebrity and entertainment. She spent much of her childhood staying with her grandparents, her grandfather being one of the first boxers at the world-renowned Ring, at London's Blackfriars. He taught her many useful skills, including how to pull a real punch!

Dee is the daughter of famous husband and wife team Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the creators of the cult television series' Thunderbirds, Stingray, Fireball XL5, Joe 90, Captain Scarlet and Space 1999.

During this period, Dee listened avidly to a variety of pop music in her family's record collection, influenced by her parents, grandparents, and her own passion for the music of the time, ranging from The Stones to Tom Waits and Bruce Springstein.

After leaving school, Dee was keen to pursue a singing and acting career, and so applied for Drama School. She knew that her parents were unhappy about her entering what they saw as an insecure profession. However, they soon discovered that Dee had not only applied and been accepted, but had also won a full scholarship. Realising her determination, Gerry and Sylvia gave her their blessing, and Dee completed her training.

The years of singing along to the family record collection had paid off, and Dee was told that she should sing professionally. She embarked on a highly successful career as an actress and singer, appearing on television and stage, in shows including 'The Elvis Show' in London's West End, with Toyah Willcox in 'Trafford Tanzi', and in the revival of 'Oh Boy', alongside Shakin' Stevens, Alvin Stardust and Lulu. She also starred with Adam Faith in a theatre version of Alfie, and worked with Peter Skellern and Wendy Craig in television series' for the BBC. Over the years, she has appeared in 'London's Burning', 'The Bill' and a host of other TV shows.

In anticipation of her new album release, Dee has recently performed live throughout the UK, and in Memphis, Tennessee, and Oregon, West Coast USA.

Music Across the World

Making music accessible to everybody

M.A.W is a unique charity designed at making music accessible to the developing world.

Music unites nations, transcends race and religions, and gives hope and meaning to those who have none. There are many areas of the World where poverty is so extreme, that it is impossible to buy musical instruments for schools, or even attempt to obtain access to music in any form, whether it be listening, playing or performing.

We all have an inbuilt musical ability or talent, and M.A.W will help people access these natural abilities. It will help people to connect to their own musical heritage and grass roots - and will bring richness to the music of the World as the awareness grows.

M.A.W aims to improve facilities and put music teachers in more schools. Teaching can be carried out in private homes by implementing teachers, either from pupils’ own particular country or by teachers from overseas.

Bursaries and grants will be set up to enable Universities and Colleges to run programmes for overseas students, either in this country and/or abroad, to develop their skills, for a percentage who want to pursue a career in music or teaching.

M.A.W is the first charity of its kind to run such challenging and rewarding projects and can only result in bringing the home of music back to it’s people. Not only that, but it gives people the opportunity to become musicians and possibly artists in their own right, how amazing would that be?
