Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven voted top rock song of all time!

The Led Zeppelin track ‘Stairway To Heaven’ has been voted the UK’s favourite rock song in a survey.

First released in 1971, it was one of three tracks by the band to make the top 10 in a listeners’ poll by digital radio station Absolute Classic Rock.

The Who’s ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’, released the same year, took 2nd place, while Queen’s 1975 chart-topper ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ took third place.

Stairway To Heaven was written after Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant began composing music at Bron-Yr-Aur, a remote cottage in Wales.

Tom Petty returns with MOJO

One of my favourite musicians Tom Petty will return with `Mojo`, his first album in 8 years with The Heartbreakers.

‘The Last DJ’ was the last album for The Heartbreakers in 2002. Since then Tom released the solo album ‘Highway Companion’ in 2006 and his reunion album with his first band Mudcrutch in 2008.

The first song from ‘Mojo’ is ‘Good Enough’, now playing at tompetty.com.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will go out of tour across North America starting in May. The tour will feature special guests My Morning Jacket, Crosby Still & Nash, Joe Cocker, ZZ Top and Drive-By Truckers.

Helping young bands.

Paolo Nutini says he’s in the process of building a studio in his house that bands can come and record in.

The Scottish singer says he’s been writing there himself and practising on a few instruments.

He told Newsbeat: “It’s just gear in a room in my house. It’s building its way up.

“The idea eventually is to have somewhere where people in Paisley, my home town, in bands that are starting up can come and make their demos and hopefully I can help out.

“I’m trying to get some people down, some different bands and see if they find it a good place to record.”

Lydon, Westwood pay tribute to McLaren

Family, fans and former colleagues paid tribute to Malcolm McLaren.

The former Sex Pistols and New York Dolls manager passed away yesterday in New York at the age of 64 after a battle with cancer.

In a message on his official website, Pistols frontman John Lydon said: “For me Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that. Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you.”

Jon Savage, author of 1991’s punk history England’s Dreaming, said: “Without Malcolm McLaren there would not have been any British punk. He’s one of the rare individuals who had a huge impact on the cultural and social life of this nation.”

Vivienne Westwood (McLaren’s former partner) added: “When we were young and I fell in love with Malcolm, I thought he was beautiful and I still do. I thought he is a very charismatic, special and talented person. The thought of him dead is really something very sad.”

Rest in peace Malcolm, our thoughts are with your family and loved ones at this troubled time.
